From Humble beginnings to League Success

Hyde United Women first came into existence in 2008 under the of guise of Denton Girls Lions and were an u8’s girls team in the North Manchester Girls Football League.

In a time of little exposure or role models the focus was on enjoying playing and developing a love for the game in those early years with results of secondary importance.

In 2015 Denton Girls became Tameside United and the opportunity arose to train and play at the home of Hyde in the Project Solar Stadium with a club partnership put in place.

Season 2017 saw the current team came fully under the Hyde United banner and renamed as Hyde United Ladies with aim to represent the club as the womens game progressed and join the Greater Manchester Womens Football League.

The 2017/18 season saw the fruits of this with a Division 2 cup win against Swinton and a runners up spot in  Division 2 to gain promotion.

The following season the team entered the GMWFL Premier Division with the aim to consolidate both on and off the pitch.

A season to adapt was needed with the step up in class and the team narrowly avoiding relegation but then came an impressive 3rd Place finish in 2023/24.

Further success came in the 2024/25 season with the team winning 12 straight games in both the league and cup providing the base to go and make history and become the GMWFL joint winners with Manchester Laces in unprecedented circumstances after a tie on points for top spot.

The team has experienced all the highs and lows that football can bring on their journey from a small group of 7 year olds who simply wanted to kick a ball around in a school hall in Denton to now being a talented, dedicated and hard working group of players and coaches whose aims are to achieve success on and off the pitch whilst playing attractive football, increasing the fan base and helping grow the female section of the club with being positive role models whom the club can be proud off.
